Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the very rear (third) molar teeth that generally form and erupt in late teen or early adult years. These teeth can often cause problems due to space and positioning issues, as well as dental decay, resulting in the need for removal.

FAQ

  • Difficulties in opening the mouth due to inflammation and/or infection.
  • Damage to neighboring teeth due to impacted position.
  • Crowding and movement in other teeth due to lack of space.

If any of the above are occurring, an X-ray called an OPG will be taken to assess if you will need to have your wisdom teeth removed.

Following a consultation and a review of your OPG scan, our highly experienced dental surgeon Dr Tony Strangio who has performed thousands of wisdom teeth extractions, will discuss the best option for removing your wisdom teeth – this could be either under General Anaesthetic (hospital setting) or under IV (twilight) sedation.

Depending on the complexity of the extractions and the amount of teeth needing to be removed, recovery can take anywhere from a few days to over a week. Painkillers and other medication will be prescribed to help minimize any post operative swelling, bruising, pain and potential infection.

As a guide, wisdom teeth extractions start from $400 per tooth. Anaesthetic fees are extra. A full quote will be given at the time of consultation with Dr Strangio.
